Bitdefender is one of the top antivirus scanners for Mac with consistently high malware detection rates, as well as a suite of other useful security features. However, the program isn’t free of flaws.

The default interface for the suite is easy to navigate and features in three categories: Privacy privacy, Utilities, and Protection. The Protection tab focuses on the features you’d expect from an antivirus suite, such as real-time scanning, firewall monitoring and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab provides ways to be secure on the internet, including an encrypted web browser that runs websites inside a sandbox in order to block malware from infecting your standard browser. The Utilities tab is a place to find optimization tools and a file shredder that overwrites files using exclusive algorithms to render them unrecoverable even if they’ve been deleted.

Premium plans also come with a password manager, as well as a solution known as «Anti-Tracker» that can block websites from tracking you too often. The program also offers vulnerability scanners that detect outdated software and passwords that are weak as well as Windows updates that haven’t been applied. It also has a quick custom scan that only takes five minutes to complete, which is quicker than competitors such as Norton and TotalAV.

The only issue with the app is its slow installation process which can be very frustrating for those who want to start immediately. In addition, the app’s «Reveal in the Finder» option doesn’t work this is a bizarre choice for an antivirus program which competes with competing solutions that can do the same thing in just few clicks.
